Matter
Atom: Smallest unit of matter. Consists of protons neutrons and electrons.
Element: Substance made of only one kind of atom; therefore pure.
Compound: Two or more diffrent elements bonded together.
Molecule: Group of atoms held together by covalent bonds.
Ion: An atom of molecule that has gained or lost electrons.
Water and Solutions
- Water is a major component of cells.
- Cells are filled with water.
- Most cellular events use water as their medium.
- Helps maintain homeostasis.
Cohesion: Attraction between substances of the same kind.
Adhesion: Attraction between diffrent substances. Capllary action powered by adhesion moves water through a plant.
